We have organised a special treat for our Members for RAD Members Day. Shaun James Kelly will be joining NZ National Director Bronwyn Williams in a zoom conversation with our members on Sunday 21st April 2024 at 10am. Shaun will talk about his role as Choreographer in Residence and Soloist for the Royal New Zealand Ballet (RNZB). He will also provide some useful tips and advice for any of our members, who are budding choreographers.
Shaun has worked with leading and top-tier creatives during his career, which has taken him through Scotland, England, Denmark and for the last 10 years the RNZB. Winner of the 2016 Harry Haythorne Choreographic Award for his work Blanc, Shaun has created several pieces for the RNZB including The Ground Beneath Our Feet, Aura for Tutus on Tour, and Alba for the RNZB's all digital programme. Most notably and recently, he created Prismatic, inspired by Russell Kerr's landmark ballet.
His performance career has been spectacular with a couple of the highlights being his performance of Puck in Midsummer Night's Dream, for which he was described as "dazzling irrepressible' and 'stunning '; and his critically acclaimed performance as Hansel in Loughlan Prior's Hansel and Gretel.
He has also worked with students from the NZSD, the RNZB mentor programme and the RAD Summer School.
